Having spent 8 years in the NHS as a reconstructive plastic surgeon and with over 25 years of experience as a consultant plastic surgeon in private practice, Mr McDiarmid is one of the UK’s leading plastic surgeons. At present he sits as 2025-26 Chairman at the Consortium of Aesthetic Plastic Surgeon Owners. He is a sought after speaker at international conferences across the world including Singapore, Taiwan, and Malaysia, and on the organising committee of the British Aesthetics Meeting 2025 and 2026. Our surgeons are highly qualified and have travelled internationally to hone their surgical techniques. You can trust that our surgical team members are all fully accredited, experienced consultants who have undergone specialist fellowship training in plastic surgery.

The procedures offered at Wood MediSpa are all treatments which offer clinically evidenced results. The technology we use at Wood MediSpa has to be clinically evidenced to perform safely and with proven results in order to meet our high standards. We have invested in the very best proven medical and surgical training and technologies so there is no compromise at Wood MediSpa. When introducing new services, we rigorously investigate them to ensure they meet our high standards: so in turn, they meet your high standards.

Wood MediSpa was the first UK hospital to introduce pre-operative carbon monoxide screening for all surgical patients. Why is this important? We prioritise patient safety, and one of the main causes of healing complications in patients is entirely preventable! Smoking and vaping adversely affects wound healing, so we ask our patients to abstain from smoking prior to their procedures to optimise their wound healing. Mr McDiarmid was subsequently awarded the gold medal award at the ISAPS Olympiad World Congress Singapore 2025 for his pioneering work on “Carbon Monoxide Breath Testing: Surgical Self-Defence” and this contribution to patient safety.

Another key factor in patient safety is the anaesthetic protocols used. At Wood MediSpa we believe that general anaesthesia with a controlled airway represents the safest anaesthetic option for our patients. Our facility is fully accredited for general anaesthetic and overnight stay – this is not always the case at other UK institutions. When comparing us to other facilities, look very carefully as to whether you are staying overnight as an inpatient and what would happen if you became immediately unwell after discharge if you are a day case patient. Can you be readmitted easily? We operate a 24/7 emergency triage phone line for urgent post-operative concerns.

All our major surgery is carried out under general anaesthetic and depending on the extent of your surgery, you stay on a fully staffed hospital ward for either 1 or 2 nights. Our patients often say it feels more like staying in a hotel than a hospital ward, but you have access medical staff. We get a lot of positive feedback regarding our overnight stays – with our nurses on hand through the day and night, you can have any worries immediately addressed. Whilst surgery is a day-to-day normality for our team, we appreciate that post-op recovery can be a vulnerable and worrying time. We seek to make this recovery as comfortable and worry-free as possible.

You can choose to stay with us longer should you wish: discharged patients can extend their for a small additional fee. This is often helpful for patients who have to travel to get to Wood MediSpa. We have patients who travel from Exeter, Bristol, London and as far as Manchester, Birmingham and beyond to see us at Wood MediSpa.
